Sea glass is old vintage glass that has found its way into our lakes and oceans by man through purposeful dumping, street run off, lost and sunken vessels, possibly pirated vessels, drunken sailors, or from playing marbles at the beach. However man discarded these pieces remains a part of the history of the glass that is yet to be discovered. Nature takes these broken shards and tumbles them with wave action and sand which polishes and smoothes them giving them a unique frosted appearance and then deposits them upon the shore.

YES! Real seaglass is found naturally on the shores of our Great Lakes and Oceans while artificial sea glass is man made through machine tumblers or by acid etching and possibly other man made ways. There ARE unique identifiable characteristics of REAL sea glass verses altered or artificial sea glass. There is, as of yet, no way to exactly duplicate the natural effect of REAL surf tumbled glass by artificial methods.
